Elizabeth K. Brown is a Shareholder in the Firm, where she has practiced most of her legal career. She is a member of the Firm’s Transactional/Business Department. She also is Chair of the Marketing Committee and a member of the Firm’s Tax, Natural Resources, and Family Wealth Transfer Planning practice groups. She represents individuals and both privately-held and public companies in a wide range of transactional matters.
For her business clients, Liz often serves in the role of outside counsel, advising owners and executives. Her representation includes negotiating and organizing business structures; resolving shareholder and employee disputes; handling corporate governance issues; providing counsel in the purchase or sale of the business; implementing techniques to minimize wealth transfer taxes; and developing business succession plans.
Liz has been a frequent speaker and panelist on estate planning, taxation and related topics. She co-authored Fallout from the Take-or-Pay Wars: Gross Production Tax on Proceeds Received in Settlement of Take-or-Pay Litigation, 43 Okla. L. Rev. 457 (1990). Her achievements in the area of business, tax and family wealth transfer law have earned her inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America (Trusts and Estates) and Oklahoma Super Lawyers.
As a past Director of the Central Oklahoma Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Liz has been actively involved with JDRF since her son Andrew was diagnosed with Diabetes in 2000. She currently serves as the organization's Major Gifts Chair. As a direct result of her advocacy, Phillips Murrah continually ranks as a top fund-raising team in Walk to Cure Diabetes, JDRF's annual fundraiser.
Born and raised in Ada, Oklahoma, Liz lives in Oklahoma City with her husband Ron, who is also an attorney, and their three children. In her free time, she enjoys attending soccer games with her son, Andrew, and spending quality time with her two children in college, Matt and Lauren, and her extended family. She also enjoys playing the piano. What Liz loves most about practicing law is helping entrepreneurs achieve their business goals.
