Biography

Fred H. Miller is an attorney in the Business Department and a member of the Firm’s Natural Resources, Tribal, and Commercial and Consumer Financial Services practice groups. He represents both privately-held and public companies in a wide range of finance matters.  

Fred served as a professor of Law at the University of Oklahoma College of Law from 1966 to 2006. He has authored or co-authored over 100 law review articles and related works, as well as over ten books on issues relating to all aspects of commercial and consumer law. This includes “Sales and Leases of Goods-West,” “Law of Modern Payment Systems – West,” “West’s Legal Forms,” and “West Oklahoma Forms (Vernon’s)- West.” Fred has been the Commissioner from Oklahoma to the National Conference of Commissioners Uniform State Laws since 1975, serving as President from 2003 to 2005.  

Fred formerly held the McAfee Chair in Law and Centennial Professorship and remains a George Lynn Cross Research Professor Emeritus. He also serves as an editor of the Annual Survey of Consumer Financial Services Law for The Business Lawyer Magazine and overall editor and contributing author for Hawklands Uniform Commercial Code Series, one of the leading treatises on UCC law.  

Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Fred lives in Norman, Oklahoma, with his wife, Marcia. In his free time, he enjoys history, foreign travel and collecting antiques.

Representative Experience

  • Speaker at the American Bar Association's Business Law Section's Spring Meeting in Dallas, Texas, on the topic of the National Automated Clearing House Association's Deposited Check Truncation Pilot, which will enable the truncation of law value consumer checks to be deposited with financial institutes.
  • In May, 2008, spoke at the annual Counselor Library Housing and Auto Finance Workshop in Annapolis, Maryland, focusing on the Truth in Lending Act.
